WELCOME TO POSSIBILITY
"Possibility is a very diverse, open, and supportive community, where people are free to join and discuss their thoughts, emotions, and feelings with a trustworthy staff team. Possibility is a welcoming and friendly community where people can cooperate and grow together as peers. But most importantly, Possibility is a place where you can be yourself and not have to worry about discrimination or the fear of being different."
When I first started on this journey last May, I had no clue what I was getting myself into (and honestly still don't) even though I did a lot of research. The only thing I knew was that Possibility needed a team of leaders. The hunt began, I was unfamiliar with the roads I was about to go down, and I knew this. The first thing I did was find somebody, who was smarter and more knowledgeable in the mental health community. After I found the person and convinced him to believe in what I was working on as much as I did, he became a tremendous asset, and a key part of Possibility's future and success. He's the current acting President of Possibility and I couldn't be more proud.
Here is one of my favorite quotes presented below.
“It takes guts to be a first follower! You stand out and brave ridicule, yourself. Being a first follower is an under-appreciated form of leadership. The first follower transforms a lone nut into a leader. If the leader is the flint, the first follower is the spark that makes the fire.” ~Derek Siversa
You may be asking why I created Possibility, I have been asking this myself too. Until I looked further into the statistics and facts of Suicide.
43 seconds is a very short time for something to happen. But, 43 is also the average number of seconds it takes for someone to attempt suicide in the United States. Suicide is also the 10th leading cause of death in the US. There is an upward trend in suicide rates at the age of 15 to 24, and has been going up ever since 2008. I read this in a report by A.F.S.P. (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention).
Possibility's goal is to help with reducing suicide, self-harm and many other struggles or harmful activities. By providing a safe and open space, where users can express their private thoughts and emotions with other users close to their own age. (With the choice of talking with a group, or one on one with one of the staff members) This is all to give a feeling of a peer to peer, supportive environment.
